The 12 Most Useful Knots DVD

Want to get better at tying knots? Have you tried learning some knots only to be overwhelmed by how many there are? Want to be able to remember how to tie a knot when you need it?

This DVD can help!

There are hundreds of different knots, which can be daunting, but many of them are specialized knots, or perform almost the same function as other knots. You don’t need to know them all! In fact, you can get through most situations with only 12 knots, if you learn the right 12.

My goal is to help you learn and remember these 12 knots so you can tie them when you need them.

When you need a knot, can you remember how to tie it?

A knot is much more useful if you can remember how to tie it when you need it. If you have to go look up how to tie it, you probably won’t bother. Or you might be out and about and not be able to look it up. If you can remember how to tie a given knot when you need it, you’ll find yourself using it more.

This is the basic principle behind this DVD: being able to remember how to tie a knot when you need it is the most important thing. My approach can be broken down into two guidelines: only study the most useful knots, and learn those knots deeply so you don’t forget them.

Only study the most useful knots.

It’s a lot easier to remember knots if you only need to know a few of them. I focus on general-purpose knots that are useful in a variety of everyday situations, instead of spending time learning specialist knots that are only good at one thing.

Why spend time trying to learn dozens of different knots when you only need 12?

Learn those knots deeply.

The important thing is to be able to remember the knot, right? So you’ll spend time learning each of the 12 knots inside and out, deeply studying them so you’ll remember them.

You’ll learn how to tie each knot, of course, but you’ll also examine the knots on a deeper level. You’ll look at:

The goal is to become so familiar with these knots that they are like old friends, and won’t be forgotten later.

Sample Chapter

Here’s a sample chapter from the DVD. This chapter covers the figure 8 family of knots. The figure 8 is a great knot to know because it can be used so many different ways.

How is this different from other knot sites on the Internet?

There are several other sites about tying knots, and they are quite good. However, they cover lots of knots. This is helpful if you’re an expert looking for a specialized knot, but if you just want to know the best knots it can be overwhelming to have a list that goes on for pages.

These lessons approach knots differently.

My goal is that once you go through the lessons and remember the knots, you never need the lessons again. Hopefully you’ll know (and use) the knots for life!

I’ll also show you how to apply the knots by highlighting ways I use them around the house and in every day life. I’ll cover how to use them when hiking and camping too, because knots are so useful outdoors.
